Can you tell me about yourself?
I live in beautiful Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, with my husband Doug and our cat Braveheart, who’s afraid of everything. I work full-time for a county Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities/Early Intervention program. I serve as an elder at my church and am involved in teaching and prayer ministries. In addition, I never had one thought of becoming an author or speaker. Sometimes God has dreams for us that we know nothing about.

What inspired you to become a writer?
My journey as a writer started out with a simple desire to preserve the stories of my extraordinary cat Knickerbocker. Much to my surprise, He Was Never a Cat: Knick’s Story, My Story, Your Story, became an incredible adventure as I honed my writing skills and formed lasting relationships throughout the writing, publishing, and marketing process.
But long before I became an author, God was developing my faith and using me to impact people in a positive way. Through many teaching opportunities at my church, I saw how my words of personal experience and testimony brought hope and encouragement to others. God has now transferred those spoken words to written text but my ministry remains the same—to use my life experience to teach, encourage and bless others.
How long did it take you to acquire the skills to become a writer?
I’ve been writing for about six years now, but really it’s been a lifelong process as God has been preparing me for this time. I’m grateful for the gifting He has given me as well as the invaluable help and advice I’ve received from my many extremely talented author friends.
How many books have you written?
I’ve published two books so far. My Knick book mentioned above and A God for All Seasons: Inspiration and Reflection for All Times, which I’m honored to announce has won the 2014 Readers’ Favorite silver medal for Christian non-fiction. I’ve also written a children’s picture book that I hope to have published one day.
Some writers go on long walks; others keep a journal, write at a café, or listen to music. What do you do for inspiration and unleashing your creativity?
I kept a journal for many years, which was extremely helpful in getting my thoughts down on paper but also a wonderful resource for material that I could draw from in writing my books. I also love music and I’m often inspired during times of worship. I also seem to often have creative moments right before I fall asleep or when I’m in the shower.
What are you working on now?
By the end of the year, I hope to start working on a new book called Life is a Puzzle: Finding Your God-Given Place and Purpose. The idea is that every one of us has a purpose and we can impact others in a positive way simply by being and becoming more of who we already are.
